Demo Derby

The Demo Derby at the Huntingdon County Fair is a tradition that has become one of our most popular nights.  It is not often that you can find an empty seat in the Grandstand when the cars start crashing.  General admission tickets for each derby can be purchased in advance by clicking theBuy Tickets Onlinebuttons below.  (A $0.50 processing fee per ticket is added to all online will-call orders placed for each Demo Derby event.)  We hope to see you there for all of the fun and excitement!  Grandstand gates open one hour prior to the start of the event!  Everyone of all ages entering the Grandstand must have a ticket to attend the Demo Derbies, no exceptions!  For more information about derby rules or entering vehicles into the derby, please contact John Powell at (814) 643-2969.

Please Note: There is no reserved seating at the Demo Derbies.  Seating is first come, first served.  We ask that guests do not reserve seats so that other guests may find a seat in the stands to enjoy the derby.  Guests are asked not to bring large items into the Grandstand area, including but not limited to: coolers, folding strollers, large bags and folding chairs.  Please help us make the Demo Derbies a fun and exciting experience for all of our guests by adhering to these policies.  Thank you!

DEMO DERBY RULES 

  1. All drivers must fill out an application before taking part in the event.
  2. The track reserves the right to approve or reject any application.
  3. Only drivers, owners, mechanics, etc. that sign the insurance release will be permitted in the pit area or the track.
  4. Members of the Demolition Derby are not employees of the track, owners or sponsors.

 

Promoter and fair board are not responsible for violations in transporting cars or mowers to and from fairgrounds. All vehicles in the pit area are parked at your own risk. Tow vehicles only. DRIVERS MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE. PROOF OF AGE REQUIRED ALL DRIVERS MUST SUPPLY THEIR OWN CAR OR MOWER. WHEN YOU BRING YOUR CAR/MOWER TO THE TRACK, IT WILL BE INSPECTED. WHEN THE CAR/MOWER IS ACCEPTED FOR COMPETITION, IT WILL BE ASSIGNED TO AN ELIMINATION HEAT AND MUST BE PUT IN LINE FOR THAT HEAT AND REMAIN THERE UNTIL CALLED TO COMPETE – GOOD LUCK NO CARS AFTER 6:00 P.M.

 ** SAFETY AND CAR SPECIFICATIONS**

    1. Positively no Chrysler Imperials with full frames, jeeps, trucks, ambulances, 4 wheel drive vehicles, Limos, Compact cars or 1971-76 full sized leaf spring wagons.
    2. Any American made hard top automobile.
    3. SEAT-BELTS AND SAFETY HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.  FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES recommended.
    4. Rear seat MUST be removed completely, also the carpet, inner door panels and headliner. Loose dirt and pieces MUST be removed from the car.
    5. NO PLASTIC TANKS WILL BE ALLOWED! NO MORE THAN 3 GALLONS OF GAS RECOMMENDED. GAS TANK MUST BE MOVED FROM ORIGINAL LOCATION. GAS TANK MUST BE MOUNTED IN FRONT OF REAR AXLE. NO GAS TANKS MOUNTED DIRECTLY BEHIND DRIVER’S SEAT. YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST TWO SECURE TIE DOWNS ON TANK. ALL CAPS, FITTINGS, AND LINES MUST BE LEAK PROOF. NO WIRE ROPE OR SEAT-BELT STRAPS ACCEPTED AS TIE DOWNS. ALL TIE DOWNS MUST BE STEEL! IF GAS IS ACCIDENTALLY SPILLED DURING TANK FILL UP, HOSE OUT AREA WELL. GAS ONLY!
    6. No special bumpers or reinforcements will be allowed. Bumpers may be cut. No sharp edges allowed.
    7. All glass, including headlights MUST be removed. WINDSHIELD MAY REMAIN IN OR BE TAKEN OUT. IF TAKEN OUT, HEAVY SCREEN MUST BE IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. REINFORCED.
    8. DRIVER’S DOOR AND ONLY DRIVER’S DOOR MAY BE REINFORCED.
    9. No special electrical system. Only 12-volt battery to a car. Batteries may be moved. BATTERY TIE-DOWNS MUST BE SECURED. No wire, tape, or seat belt strapping. ALL TIE DOWNS MUST BE STEEL!
    10. All side chrome must be removed. All plastic, including plastic grills, must be removed
    11. All cars must be numbered on the side and roof- pick your own number and paint it on the car. A metal sign 15″ long by 12″ high must be on roof with Numbers Be sure numbers show on both sides.
    12. Do not paint obscene words on the car.
    13. ALL DOORS MUST BE WIRED, STRAPPED, CHAINED OR ONE THREE-INCH WELD PER DOOR.
    14. HOODS MUST BE ON CAR. HOOD HINGES MUST BE ON CAR. HOOD AND TRUCK SPRINGS MUST BE REMOVED.
    15. NO extra hood tie downs. Trunk lids may be tied down with wire or strap. Chains ok. One tie down point.
    16. All trailer hitches must be removed.
    17. All air conditioning units must be removed.
    18. Cooling systems must remain under hood. NO ANTIFREEZ.
    19. POSITIVELY NO WATER IN TIRES-NO BOLTING TIRES TO RIM OR FASTENING TIRES TO RIMS IN ANY WAY. “TIRES MUST BE STREET LEGAL (NO STUDS OR CUT TIRES)”.  ALL LUG NUTS WILL BE ON.
    20. Do not raise the car up. If the car is too high, it will not be accepted.
    21. SAME CAR THAT YOU USE IN THE HEAT YOU MUST USE IN FEATURE.
    22. MAKE OF ENGINE MUST MATCH CAR EXAMPLE GM-GM, FORD, MOPAR-MOPAR.
    23. All airbags and chargers must be removed.
    24. All drivers must wear a neck collar, pants and NO SHORTS.
    25. All drivers must wear top of driver’s suit or a long sleeve shirt (ex. sweatshirt, flannel shirt, etc.). No one under 16 years of age is permitted in the pits area without a signed parental consent form. You may drive forwards or backwards. No deliberate hitting on the driver’s door. Any driver not obeying the rules will be disqualified.
    26. No excessive body bending, especially in trunk area & no welding
    27. One bar behind the driver seat from the door post to door post, no higher than ¾ up back of seat. Max Diameter is 3″. It must be welded and it must have 4″ X 4″ plate on each end. Also, can attach to it, near the middle, one bar down to the floor with plate 4″ X 4″ or larger, and a bar near the middle running downhill to the bottom of the firewall with a plate 4″ X 4″ plates can be bolted or welded.

     

    STAY IN THE CAR. DO NOT LEAVE THE CAR. DO NOT TAKE OFF YOUR HELMET OR SEAT-BELT UNTIL THE HEAT IS COMPLETED UNLESS NOTIFIED BY THE ANNOUNCER. Car must be repaired when you bring it to the track. You cannot prepare it at the track. All cars must be entered one hour before the starting time. INJURIES, IF ANY, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, MUST BE IMMEDIATELY REPORTED TO THE OFFICALS IN CHARGE. “RULES AND REGULATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE”. POSITIVELY NO ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES IN THE PIT AREA ALL WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PITMEN. IF ANY DRIVER IS CAUGHT WITH ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, THE DRIVER AND PITMEN WILL BE TAKEN OUT OF THE PITS AT ONCE. All cars – no lights, cans, or ornaments on roof. Mini vans only to be tie down two points on each rear hatch. For all classes, stock radiators or closed loop cooling systems, NO TANKS. All decisions are that of the promoter and are final.

     

    Stock Mower Demolition Derby Rules

    1. Any lawn tractor may be used. No old school garden tractors. No rear engine riders. Absolutely no shaft driven tractors.
    2. Long pants, long sleeve shirt, work boots, gloves, eye protection and DOT helmet MANDATORY!
    3. If it’s not stated that you can do it in the rules, DO NOT DO IT! No gray area building. Don’t assume it’s ok. Call first!
    4. Tractors will remain stock from the factory unless addressed in the rules.
    5. ABSOLUTELY no welding anywhere on the tractor except leg guards!
    6. Must run leg guards. Leg guards cannot extend more than 3” in front of the footrest. They cannot be welded to the frame in any way. You must run a full body mower. ¼” maximum material. Fuel Tank protector is highly recommended if running an under the seat fuel tank.
    7. If running a Craftsman tractor, you will be allowed to weld a plate over the exhaust hole in the frame. The plate should be no bigger than 1/8” thick. Plate cannot be more than ¼” bigger than the hole. This will be checked! Also, you can restub pre-ran mowers.
    8. Back bar can be added for safety purposes only. Use caution when hitting in the rear.
    9. Front and back bumpers are allowed. However, they cannot be any wider than 75% of the width of the tires. Maximum size is 2 ½” x 2 ½” or 2 ½” round tube.
    10. Vertical shaft engine only. No old iron. No shaft driven mower. No shaft driven to gear box.
    11. Pulley swaps are allowed – 6/4 max. This will be checked! Peerless 820 and any other 5 lug rears are allowed.
    12. Stock steering
    13. No modified spindles. Must remain stock to that tractor.
    14. No welded front axels. Must be floating as if it came from the factory.
    15. Stock ignition. A push button and toggle switch may be used.
    16. Exhaust must be straight. Minimum 10” from the top of the hood. Maximum 15”.
    17. No aftermarket engines. No diesel engines.
    18. Must run a metal hood and grill. No plastics. Tin only. Can be seam welded, riveted, or screwed together. Can run two (2) ¾” pieces of all tread through front frame, up through the hood.
    19. No engine braces or cradles. May run spark plug protector but can only be connected to the engine.
    20. Gas tank must be put in a safe area and covered. MANDATORY – must have a gas shut off switch. You can run a fuel cell – max 2 gallons.
    21. Tires and rims are to remain stock with no modifications. No wheel protectors.
      1. 6” minimum on the front, 12” maximum on the rear.
      2. Tires may have tubes. Tires must hold air only. No cement, water, foam, or any other material may be used.
      3. Valve stem protectors are allowed.
      4. Snow blower tires are allowed
      5. No connected V bar tires allowed.
      6. No tire chains.
    22. Pre-run or damaged tractors must meet the rules.
    23. If it comes down to two (2) tractors after 15 minutes, they will be shut down. First and second place will be decided upon Fan’s Choice.
    24. You are only allowed 2 times through the inspection line before you will be loaded. Please build responsibly so that you don’t have to cut or modify anything.
    25. Must have a number painted on sides or on a hood sign.
